Fees
A live box pays two kinds of fee, on the way in and on the way out: Strike's trading fee and the strikeabox builder fee. Spread costs come on top. The plan you see before tapping includes estimates of all three, and the result shows what was actually charged.
Strike's trading fee
Strike charges a fee on every fill, as a share of the filled value:
trading fee = fill price × fill size × fee rateThe rate depends on your fee tier, which Strike sets from your 30-day trading volume. Strike publishes the schedule in its docs: Strike trading fees. strikeabox reads the current schedule from Strike's API (GET /v2/fee-tiers) for its estimates.
At the time of writing, the base tier on Strike testnet, where a new account starts, charges a taker rate of 0.050 %. Maker rates and rebates exist too, but a live box takes liquidity on both sides: the entry is an immediate-or-cancel order that crosses the book, and the exits are triggered orders or a closing order. Expect the taker rate on both fills.
The strikeabox builder fee
strikeabox is a Strike builder. Builders may add a fee to the orders they place, and Strike collects it on each fill.
| Value | |
|---|---|
| Maximum you approve when you connect | 1 % (100 basis points) per order, sent to Strike as fee_share_bps. This is the "up to 1%" line in the message you sign. |
| Charged by strikeabox on the hosted deployment | 0.05 % (5 basis points) per order, sent with every order as X-Builder-Fee-Bps |
| Charged when | on the entry fill and again on the exit fill |
The two numbers are different on purpose. The 1 % is a ceiling that Strike enforces: it rejects any order whose builder fee is above what you approved. The 0.05 % is what strikeabox actually charges. The app reads both from the server and shows them on the consent screen, in each plan before you tap (in dollars), and on each result. Whatever the deployment sets, the fee charged can never exceed the maximum you approved.
The fee is fixed per box. The rate in force when a live box is accepted is stored on that box and used for every order of it: the entry, the target and stop, and any closing order. If the deployment changes its fee later, boxes that are already open keep the fee you saw in their plan.
A worked example
A $100 notional live box, with both fills at the taker rate:
| Entry fill | Exit fill | Round trip | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strike taker fee, 0.050 % | $0.05 | $0.05 | $0.10 |
| strikeabox builder fee, 0.05 % | $0.05 | $0.05 | $0.10 |
| Total fees | $0.10 | $0.10 | ≈ $0.20 |
So the price has to move about 0.20 % in your favour, plus the spread, before a box breaks even.
Why a target hit can be a net loss
Boxes are small. A row is $10 on BTC-USD, $0.50 on ETH-USD and $0.05 on SOL-USD, and the grid only reaches a few rows from the price. The move to your target is often a few hundredths of a percent.
Illustration, with made-up but realistic numbers: BTC-USD at $80,000. You tap a box whose bottom edge is $40 above your entry. That is a 0.05 % move.
| Amount on $100 | |
|---|---|
| Gain if the target fills exactly at the trigger | +$0.05 |
| Fees, entry and exit | −$0.20 |
| Result, before spread and slippage | −$0.15 |
The target hit. The box still lost money. On a thin book, the spread and the fill price can make it worse. This is why the plan shows the estimated P&L at the target including fees and spread before you tap. Check it.
Funding
Perpetual positions pay or receive funding at Strike's funding times. A live box lasts about a minute at most, so it only meets a funding time if one falls while it is open. A position left open after a CLOSE_FAILED keeps paying or receiving funding until you close it.
Practice mode has no fees
Practice taps don't pay fees. The house edge of 10 % is built into the multipliers instead. See Multipliers and the model.
